Unable to return to work due to the trauma, she sinks into a deep depression. When her boyfriend leaves her and her parents are unable to deal with her problems, she attempts suicide. This culminates in her spending a lengthy spell in hospital.

There her recovery is slow, but when she is befriended by a male nurse, a relationship begins to develop. Once she leaves hospital to live with the male nurse's parents, their relationship blossoms, and Donna thinks all her troubles are over.

However, on her honeymoon on the Spanish island of Torrelino, Donna discovers that she may have married the man who raped her. Could he be about to silence her for good or is Donna mistaken?

For fan's of K. L. Slater and Louise Jensen, this twisty thriller will keep you guessing throughout.

Against Her WillA Gripping Psychological Suspense Novel eBook Peter Martin

Ugh, where do I begin. I chose this book because it was described as a "gripping psychological thriller", but it was anything but. The lead character, Donna, gets assaulted and raped one night after leaving work late. The first half of the book describes her feelings after the attack, which was obviously traumatic, but the writing was so repetitive that it was boring. About 50% of the way through we meet the male nurse that helps here through her ordeal, and they develop a friendship. But, once again, the writing is rough, the dialogues are choppy, and the whole thing feels like a chore to read. The only reason I kept going (other than I hate to not finish a book!) is because I was interested in finding out who the attacker was. You sort of get a feeling, and can make a guess as you go, but overall the novel was just not good in my opinion.

Against Her WillA Gripping Psychological Suspense Novel eBook Peter Martin Reviews

This was a very good book; well written, kept me in suspense up to a point. I'm not 100% sure to be honest how I felt about this book . It was strange but in the end I couldn't put it down. I guessed about 3/4 of the way what the end of the story would be but, of course, it was just a guess so I had to finish it. I was a little put out by all the "self-pity" exhibited by this character and wished the author could have presented her predicament in a different way, while keeping us aware of how awful her situation was. I'm sure anyone reading this review is going to be somewhat confused by it, but I just am not 100% sure of how to rate this book. Would I recommend it? Yes, if you like a good mystery it wasn't bad at all. But, I would probably say just what I've said and suggested a different book first11!
Quite frankly, this novel is garbage. Granted, there are few options for storytelling in this genre, but this fails to hit the mark in a number of ways. 1. The characters are flat. The novel starts strong, with a brutal initiating incident that changes Donna for forever, but her character does not develop through the rest of the story. Aside from the modeling career backstory, the reader never finds out who she was before she was attacked, so it's hard to appreciate the small growth.
2. The plot is grossly underdeveloped. In a psychological thriller, the main character has to change. There has to be some point where she can no longer carry on down the path she's on. The story lingers on her depression, unemployment, and inability to assimilate back into society, but those things were not enough to advance the story. There was nothing to "grip" the reader.
3. The ending seemed abrupt and forced. I would have liked to see a build up to the ending. In addition, it seemed too coincidental for Cole to be stationed in the exact place where Donna and Evan were vacationing for their honeymoon.
We meet the main character, Donna, while she is having to stay late at the office...due to a somewhat overbearing, overly friendly boss--David. As a result, she is late for a date with her fiancee, Blake. On the way to meet Blake, she is mugged, beaten and raped at the train station. Jill Meadows , a Policewoman starts the investigation in the hospital...and we gradually see that Donna is having severe coping problems...as one would expect. The problems only get worse after she leaves the hospital. The Policewoman, the Doctors and staff are experienced in handling this type of a situation...but there is only so much that they can do. A rape and the aftermath for her relationships with Blake, her family and others is treated bluntly and truthfully with tenderness and respect for the victim. The author knows the character and takes us into her mind. It's an honest no-holds-barred look at people in trauma--how they face the possibility of falling into a mental abyss...hitting rock bottom...and how they can find help in making their way back up the path. There's a clever twist at the end. Three cheers and five stars for the author. Review by PanOrpheus...pen name for Howard Lipman
Ugh. I read the entire book thinking it would get better and it never did. I wanted to find out the mystery, but it didn't come until the last few pages. The write up and the cover make you think it's going to be a certain kind of novel and it just isn't. The girl is raped at the very beginning, and I know what a horrific ordeal that is, but she just whines and whines throughout the entire book. Do not waste your time.
I don't know how rape victims really feel or how they cope so I can't make an opinion on that case of this book or if character Donna was really true to form. It has to be the most traumatic thing a woman could ever go through. In this book, the people around her including her soon-to-be fiance and her parents were not supportive and had their own agenda's. I believe most family and friends would not treat a victim this way in the real world. That's the fiction side. I couldn't grasp the characters of Evan and his family. I don't feel those characters were well defined. Story was like being on a roller coaster zigzagging all around much of the time. The ending made no sense to me and really never came together like mysteries do. The editing was horrendous. Where were the proof readers on this. It was very distracting. It could have been a very good book, but for me? Just too much wrong with it.
