Instead of just being another book on evolution, this book puts the whole story of historical development of the theory of evolution from Darwin and Wallace to modern genetics together in an easy to understand form. Instead of overemphasizing Darwin and fossil evidence, it extends the treatment of the theory to a much bigger scientific context, which includes biochemistry and molecular biology. Furthermore, it also explores the connection of the theory of evolution with physics, and what quantum mechanics, the well-established theory of physics, may have in store for evolution.
As the development of practical applications of a theory provides the ultimate evidence for its validity, this book explores the applications of evolution. This book also offers a reality check that many of us need in order to break away from so-called Darwinism. Such a breakaway is good for the scientific health of our nation and the world. In addition to busting the false synonymy between Darwin and evolution, this book also busts many other myths about evolution. Scientifically, it is hard to understand what something is without understanding what it is not. Last but not least, this book includes simple questions and problems with answers and solutions in order to provide the option for the reader to be interactive while venturing through the book.
In a nutshell, this book tells the story of evolutionary theory in the bigger sociopolitical, historical, and scientific context in which it has unfolded. One of the reasons for being aware of this story and keeping the story in a bigger context is that we can learn from our past experiences and avoid the mistakes of the past. For example, such a context includes the eugenics movement, which played a significant role in the history of opposition to evolution. It is important to remember the role of eugenics so that we stay alert or on guard against the possibility of such tragedies happening again in the name of science.
The need to keep this big picture of evolution in sight is direr today than ever before. Here is why. As a society, we are entering the molecular age from both dimensions, living and non-living, by using the tools of nanotechnology and bioengineering including biotechnology. As we will be able to evolve living entities in the lab, it will be possible to control evolution and its pace in many ways and thereby manually interfering with the natural biological evolution. This will have profound impact on the society and our planet as a whole. This reason alone is good enough for us to be mindful of and keep the big picture of evolution in mind.

And God Said Let There Be Evolution The Science and Politics of Evolution Paul Sanghera eBook Reviews

“And God Said Let Be Evolution” by Dr. Paul Sanghera is a different (from all others books) on the topic and refreshing in its content of this very old topic. I think that unlike most of other books on the topic, this book is not as much about a particular theory of evolution as it is about the evolution itself. Dr. Sanghera clearly shows how evolution has been the fundamental design principle of development of life from the presence of the first cell on Earth about 3.5 billions years before to the appearance of human species. He explains how natural philosophers and scientists from the times of ancient Greeks to Wallace and Darwin to modern science have been trying to grasp and understand evolution. With the advancement of science and technology, he describes how we understand evolution a lot better today than the times of Wallace and Darwin. And the research continues...

Dr. Sanghera shows how the concept of evolution is deeply rooted in science by discussing evolution in context of not only geology (fossils) but also in terms of genetics, biochemistry, and quantum physics. I agree with the Author that the real life application is the ultimate test of validity of any theory. I like that a whole chapter is devoted to the human-made real-life current and future applications of evolutions.
The other features of this book that I especially like are as follows
1. In general, its presents a complete and up to date account of evolution and its theory.
2. Debunks many lies, myths, and false notions about evolution including synonymy between Darwin and evolution.
3. In addition to presenting evolution in its sole scientific context, the social and political context of history of understanding evolution from Darwin and Wallace to modern times is also discussed including creationism and intelligent design, Tennessee’s Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925, Louisiana Science Education Act of 2008, and much more.
4. The connection between Eugenics movement (a forgotten American tragedy) and the history of theory of evolution is also explored. This I think is very important in this context as we have already reached the dawn of molecular age including genetics.
5. Each concept, simple or complex, is adequately explained at its first appearance in the book.
6. Provide readers the options of being interactive by including simple questions and problems
7. I would say that some scientific facts and experiments are discussed in rather detail. But that moves the book closer to the real science than just being popular science; a good thing in my opinion.
In a nutshell, the book does such a great job in explaining how different features of life are connected to evolution. After reading it, you really see that nothing in science makes sense without evolution.
I highly recommend this book.
